My First Lucky Pierrot Experience: Hakodate’s Wildly Popular Local Burger Joint You Can’t Miss!

My First Lucky Pierrot Experience: Hakodate’s Wildly Popular Local Burger Joint You Can’t Miss!

Ah, the legendary Lucky Pierrot…

When it comes to local food in Hakodate, this is the place to go!
Lucky Pierrot (lovingly nicknamed “Lappy”) is a burger chain that only exists in southern Hokkaido, mostly around Hakodate.

First impressions? The store’s appearance is WILD — loud, colorful, and impossible to miss even from afar 😆
And the menu? Insanely extensive. There’s no way one visit would be enough!

Right next to the Bay Area Main Store is another bold local legend, Hasegawa Store — making this area an explosion of Hakodate flavor and flair.

Inside, it’s not quite as overwhelming as the outside, but still super fun.
There are swing seats (yes, swings!) and quirky souvenirs — a chaotic, cheerful, American-style vibe all around.

The burger? Sooo good! The bun is fluffy on the outside but toasted crisp on the inside.
That perfect contrast with the juicy patty? Total burger bliss. I’m hooked.

I spent two whole weeks in Hokkaido and only now made it to Lucky Pierrot!? What was I thinking!? 😭
Next time, I want to dedicate my entire trip to southern Hokkaido — burgers and hot springs, anyone?

Apparently, their top-selling menu item is the Chinese Chicken Burger, but I skipped it this time…
I was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd of Chinese tourists and went for something else. Next time for sure!

Would love to go on a full Lucky Pierrot food tour in Hakodate someday —
though I’ll probably be doing it solo 😂

I also grabbed their original Lucky Guarana drink — a cola-like beverage that’s considered a Hokkaido soul drink.
Apparently, it’s their best-selling souvenir!

And yes, they even have an energy drink! I got one for myself and it totally kept me awake during my road trip.
But be warned — too much of it and you won’t sleep 😅

Lucky Pierrot was founded in 1987 in Hakodate and has since expanded to over 17 locations throughout southern Hokkaido.
Unlike national chains, it prides itself on being handmade, locally sourced, and uniquely Hakodate!

Their signature Chinese Chicken Burger features a giant slab of sweet-savory karaage fried chicken — totally worth the hype.
Each location has a different theme, with the Bay Area Main Store decked out in retro decor and colorful chaos 🎉

With so many quirky vibes and unique menu items, it’s no wonder that some travelers base their entire Hakodate trip around Lucky Pierrot hopping!
Next time, I’m visiting as many branches as I can and picking my favorite Lappy 💕
