Breathtaking Ocean Views & Seafood Delights! Savor Iso Ramen & Uni Bowl at Rest House Ushio
Rest House Ushio

We took a relaxing coastal drive down to Fudai Village in Iwate Prefecture. About 30 minutes south of Kuji City, you’ll find Rest House Ushio, a charming restaurant with a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.

Window seats offer an unforgettable ocean view!
This red-roofed building sits perched above the stunning Rikuchu Coastline—and fun fact: it was even used as a filming location for the drama Amachan!

Here it is… the Iso Ramen and Uni Bowl set!
They also offer a fresh raw uni version, but… the price gave me pause, so I went with the steamed one (no regrets… maybe a tiny bit? 😂)

The Iso Ramen is a masterpiece: crystal-clear seafood broth bursting with flavor, tangled with wavy noodles, and topped with wakame seaweed, scallops, shrimp, mussels… a full ocean in one bowl! It’s surprisingly filling too.

The steamed uni bowl was delicious, but part of me kept dreaming about the raw uni. I’ve been spoiled lately with raw sea urchin in Aomori… my taste buds have officially been upgraded 😆

Rest House Ushio is perched on a cliffside in Fudai Village, Iwate Prefecture.
Famous for its ocean view and seafood-rich menu, it’s also a filming location of the beloved NHK drama Amachan.
The house special, Iso Ramen, is packed with fresh local seafood in a light yet flavorful broth—an absolute must for foodies touring the Sanriku Coast.
